I just downloaded my copy and am looking forward to reading your version of the much (and unfairly) maligned Mark’s story. He’s one of my favourite historical characters - I don’t know how anyone can fail to admire the amount of sheer guts, tenacity and determination it took not only to earn but keep a place in Wolsey's then Henry's household from a very young age, despite the barrier of class and economic disadvantage and his so-called betters resenting him for doing so. His musical gifts and intelligence were obviously remarkable and it's sobering to think of how much the music world lost when he was destroyed. Of all five men killed on 17 May 1536, he and Francis Weston really get to me - they were so young, had no real involvement in the politics that led to this, and poor Francis's baby son would’ve had no memory of his dad. So tragic and horrible.
It was so tragic and unfair and a cruel miscarriage of justice. What happened to Mark haunted me which is why I wanted to write about him. Love to get your thoughts on the novel when you're ready. All best, Martha
Hooray! So delighted for you friend! My copy arrived in the mail today and I hope to get to it before too long. So thrilled for you. The adventure's just beginning!!
Congratulations on the birth of your debut historical novel! I can't wait to read it. (And I was surprised to learn about your public policy authorship before you became a novelist.) Have a wonderful launch.
Yay for you! Poor Mark! I know how characters become real and I'm sorry for your loss - LOL.
Hey everyone, I read the ARC (advanced reader copy) and yes! This is a great story. Treat yourself.
Congratulations! I can hardly wait for my copy to arrive!
Congrats Jean!
